Bottom Line

There's little to find fault with at the Boutique B&B Kamer01. It's set in a beautifully renovated 16th-century Amsterdam townhouse in the heart of the Canal Ring, and serves a five-course champagne breakfast each morning overlooking a picturesque neighborhood scene (it's clear why the Canal Ring is on the Unesco World Heritage List). The three rooms are sumptuously furnished and equipped with DVD libraries and iMacs, while bathrooms come complete with designer toilets and luxury Korres toiletries. While guests can pay a similar price for luxury hotel with much more in the way of facilities, such as the nearby Hotel Pulitzer, many prefer the boutique intimacy and meticulous attention to detail offered here.

Oyster Hotel Review

Sixteenth-century Dutch heritage meets contemporary chic

Set in a traditionally slender canal-side building dating back to 1585, the Kamer01 B&B effortlessly blends four centuries of Dutch heritage with an exquisitely rendered 2009 renovation. Original features such as wood-beam rafters, 18th-century wallpaper, and a spiral staircase combine with contemporary design fixtures and freshly cut tulips; the result is a luxurious, yet very homey and intimate atmosphere. Large windows on each of the three floors look out over a peaceful stretch of canal, and there is little noise beyond the occasional passing bicycle.

Unesco Heritage Site in Amsterdam's Center

Situated on a quiet street in the heart of the Canal Ring, you'd be hard-pressed to find a more picturesque corner of Amsterdam. The Canal Ring boasts Unesco World Heritage Site status, and the hotel's central location also means most of the city's sights are well within walking distance, including Centraal Station. It's a 12-minute walk to the Anne Frank House and to the Red Light District.

Gorgeous decor, in-room iMacs, and canal views

Offering just two rooms and a suite, hotels don't come much more boutique than this. All rooms have canal views and are impeccably finished with tasteful contemporary decor that blends seamlessly with the building's historical heritage. Flat-screen TVs, DVD players, and even iMacs come as standard, while bathrooms include tropical-rain showers, Korres toiletries, and Philippe Starck-designed toilets. The Green Suite also has a seating area with a Hoffman sofa for day lounging, and a uniquely carved four-poster bed for nighttime. The aptly named Blue Suite has blue walls and a plush round bed.

Champagne breakfast and rooftop terrace

The hosts provide service with a very personal touch, starting with the serving of the signature champagne breakfast. The large glass table is generously prepared each morning and a five-course breakfast is taken overlooking the canal. A breakfast tray can also be served in the room, and drinks and snacks are available all day. A free pre-dinner drink is also offered every evening, which can be taken on the rooftop terrace, weather permitting. Tommie the Beagle is also on-hand for guests looking for an adorable animal to pet.
