The NH Amsterdam Centre is popular with tourists and business travelers who want a stylish and comfortable stay within walking distance of most of the city's sights. The hotel is a mid-range value; it includes nice features such as a fitness center and an interior courtyard, but extra fees are required for access to the spa and breakfast. Rooms are small, but up-to-date with free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs.
The lobby inside the NH Amsterdam Centre is all business with white tile floors and a dark wooden reception desk. A flat red couch sits nearby, but the best places to relax are in 'L Lounge, the lobby bar with views of Leidse Square, or outside (weather permitting) in the secluded patio. Like the rest of the property, Ristorante Sogno, which serves Italian food, is done up simply with large windows along one of its curved walls. The hotel isn't a hangout destination for locals, but there's enough activity in the public spaces to give it some social atmosphere.
On the edge of Leidseplein, within walking distance to the Museum Quarter
It's location is the highlight here at NH Amsterdam Centre. It's surrounding neighborhood, right in the middle of the city, is vibrant yet quiet. It's about a 10-minute walk to the shopping street of PC Hooftstraat and the museum quarter, with the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum, which reopened in 2013 after a 10-year renovation. Just across the street from the hotel is the sprawling Vondelpark. The airport is about a 20-minute drive and private transportation can be arranged for a fee.
Renovated in 2014, rooms feature clean lines and up-to-date amenities.
Each guest room at NH Amsterdam Centre underwent a renovation in 2014 and the result is modern-looking rooms with dark wood floors, flat-screen TVs, and decent-sized bathrooms. The furniture is a bit dark, but there's natural light from large windows and high ceilings to brighten the space. Sofas placed on the edge of the bed are comfortable and stylish. In the bathroom, neutral colored tiles and a glass encased shower make the space feel large, although generally standard rooms are small. There's a stainless steel hair dryer and makeup mirror attached to the wall. Noise and cleanliness aren't issues.
Features include a nice lobby bar, an interior courtyard, and a fitness center.
Usually, staying this close to the city center would mean fewer amenities due to space constraints, but the NH Amsterdam Centre is fully loaded. Ristorante Sogno does Italian food, though some guests have expressed that there are better options in the neighborhood. Lounge 'L in the lobby is a nice spot for a cocktail while people-watching the scene at Leidse Square. The fitness center (complete with several workout machines and inspirational quotes from Schwarzenegger on the wall) is free to use, but expect a charge for the facilities in the wellness center. Wi-Fi is free, but breakfast comes at an additional fee.
