Los Angeles is known for its year-round sunny skies and warm temps. There's no better way to spend an afternoon in the City of Angels than lounging poolside with a cocktail in hand (and one eye open for celebrity sightings). And while some hotel pools, like at The Beverly Hills Hotel and Mr. C Beverly Hills, are famous for providing privacy walls, many Los Angeles hotels are thinking vertically. These nine rooftop pools in Los Angeles offer some of the best views in the city. Check them out for sunning, swimming, and swooning.

1. Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles

The Ace Hotel's downtown Los Angeles location is ideal for sweeping city views that include interesting architecture and the Pacific Ocean (on clear days). The rooftop bar, called Upstairs, holds almost nightly events that can feature DJs, live bands, yoga classes, and book-release parties -- not to mention its craft cocktails. The small concrete pool, surrounded by green-padded lounge chairs, is also on the roof and the scene usually includes locals and guests wandering back and forth between the two hot spots.

2. Freehand Los Angeles

The Freehand Los Angeles offers both communal and private rooms, so it appeals to millennials who want to mix and mingle. The star of the show is the rooftop pool, complete with a Tulum-inspired cocktail bar and lounge, Broken Shaker. Food and beverage service is available on the sun loungers around the pool as well. On the roof, it's a superbly decorated party (and an occasional casual business meeting) all day and into the evening.  Plus, the views of downtown Los Angeles are pretty good, too.

3. The Jeremy West Hollywood

-

The Jeremy West Hollywood opened in 2018, bringing a brand-new relaxing rooftop pool to Sunset Boulevard. There's an adjacent indoor bar and a small indoor seating area for those who want a break from the sun. Staff also delivers food and drinks directly to the lounge chairs for guests who wish to soak in as much pool time as possible. Expect lots of potted plants, endless city views, and white sun loungers with umbrellas.

4. SLS Hotel, A Luxury Collection Hotel, Beverly Hills

The SLS Hotel's features are popular with locals, and the hip scene is part of the appeal for in-the-know tourists. Up on the sixth floor terrace, two beautiful pools sit side by side. One is just deep enough for wading, while the other is about four-feet deep. Still, the avant-garde design and full bar with waiter service is the reason guests hang out here. Seven private cabanas are also available for rent.

5. Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills

Opened in 2017, after 10 years of planning and around 200 million dollars in budget, the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills left nothing to chance and spared no expense for design and luxury. It's one of the tallest buildings (13 floors, counting the rooftop) in Beverly Hills and offers stunning city and hill views from the white rooftop deck and pool. The Rooftop by JG is also on the 13th floor, near the pool. It offers green dining chairs and sweeping city vistas, plus there's a huge fireplace for chilly nights.

6. The NoMad Hotel Los Angeles

The NoMad is known for its architecture and design, and the rooftop pool is no exception. At night, the enormous face-shaped stone fireplace lights up. Only guests are allowed to swim, but anyone can order cocktails and food from the adjacent cafe and bar. The menu is quite tongue-in-cheek -- one of the libations is called Pretty and Basic and another mimics the flow of lava.

7. Andaz West Hollywood

-

The Andaz West Hollywood has one of the highest rooftop pools in Los Angeles (it sits atop the 14-floor building). It's a popular place to hang out when the sun is setting, and the vibe is party-friendly. Friday and Saturday nights offer cocktail hours, but the views are amazing all week long. Plus, visitors can snag cabanas and take selfies on the floating pink flamingo.

8. SIXTY Beverly Hills

-

The standout feature at SIXTY Beverly Hills is its year-round chic rooftop pool and sundeck lined with loungers, umbrellas, and six private furnished cabanas. The panoramic views are best paired with a cocktail from the adjacent rooftop lounge, Above SIXTY.

9. The Standard, Hollywood

The Standard's rooftop pool and iconic blue Astroturf deck have long served as a hot spot for celebrities and scenesters, especially during the epic weekend pool parties. It's one of the few pools in Los Angeles that provides food and drink service until midnight, providing a popular daytime and evening hangout. If you get tired of sunning and sipping cocktails, free table tennis and telescopes for spying around the city are also on offer.
