Bottom Line

InnAthens is a mid-range boutique hotel set in the back secret garden of a restaurant in central Athens, a four-minute walk to Syntagma Square. The location is ideal for exploring the city by foot, as there are several dining, shopping, city attractions, and public transport options within walking distance. The entire hotel features a contemporary design with minimalist, artsy interiors. This includes the 20 guest rooms, which each feature individual decor and amenities like flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and free Wi-Fi. The two main highlights here include the central atrium with lovely plants and seating areas to relax in, as well as the free Greek buffet and a la carte breakfast. As an alternative, travelers can also consider Plaka Hotel, with similar features (including rooftop bar) for lower rates; though it's not nearly as modern.

Scene

Boutique hotel with artsy interiors and a pretty central atrium

InnAthens is interesting in that it doesn't have a traditional street entrance. It's actually located in the back garden of a restaurant, giving it a secret and exclusive appeal. It's housed in a century-old building that was renovated in 2015 to create a modern and minimalist boutique hotel. Most of the furnishings are custom-made from recyclable industrial material, giving the decor a slightly artsy feel. The reception area looks like a high-end art museum gift shop, while the L-shaped sofa in the lobby lounge and random collections of books and curios bring a bit of life into the room.

The central atrium is the highlight of the hotel. The lemon tree, vines hanging from the walls, and several surrounding potted plants create a calm and peaceful environment in which to relax. There are a few different seating spots in the atrium, including a large central wooden table around the lemon tree, along with smaller cafe-style tables, benches, and a bar with stools. The inside breakfast area is another contemporary space, with custom-made wooden tables and chairs and a long bar with stools placed along the window wall. Overall the atmosphere is relaxed, attracting mostly couples, as well as a few business travelers due to the central location.

Location

Situated in the back of a restaurant garden in central Athens

Located in the center of Athens, InnAthens is a secret hideaway spot in the middle of all of the action. There are numerous restaurants, cafes, and bars surrounding the hotel and it's just a four-minute walk to Syntagma Square. The Zappeion Hall and the large National Gardens are just five minutes on foot. Nearby attractions include Greek Parliament (seven-minute walk), Temple of Olympian Zeus (nine-minute walk), Acropolis Museum (10-minute walk), and Acropolis of Athens (16-minute walk). The village-like neighborhood of Plaka is an eight-minute walk away. The popular Ermou shopping street with boutique shops and more restaurants, cafes, and bars is a 12-minute walk from the hotel. The nearest bus stop is just a minutes' walk away and the Syntagma Metro Station is a three-minute walk from the hotel. Athens International Airport is about 40 minutes by car.

Rooms

Hip, individually decorated rooms with flat-screen TVs and mini-fridges

The 20 guest rooms at InnAthens are minimalist in design but bold in decor. While each of the rooms feature a similar look and feel, each one is individually decorated. There are a few black and white rooms, while the others feature slightly softer colors, including grays and beiges. Decor is modern throughout, with wooden floors, crisp white linens, contemporary and minimalist furniture, and abstract artwork made out of recycled materials. All rooms except for the Classical Rooms look out into the atrium, and the Deluxe Rooms also have a small veranda. The InnAthens Suite and Ground Floor Family Units feature separate living areas with a sleeper sofa. Amenities in all rooms include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, desks, telephones, safes, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms include walk-in showers with hairdryers and O.live toiletries. Bathrobes and slippers are provided.

Features

Free buffet and a la carte breakfast, small bar, and free Wi-Fi

As a boutique hotel, InnAthens doesn't have space for many features. The main feature is the daily free traditional Greek buffet breakfast that includes eggs, yogurt, cereals, fruits, and pastries, as well as about six made to order items on the menu. While there is no full restaurant, there is a small bar serving both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. The central atrium offers an ideal spot to chill out in. There's little in the way of business features, with only fax and copying facilities available from the front desk. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property. Additional features include 24-hour reception, luggage storage, and tourist information. There is no on-site parking available.
