Contemporary hotel with modern interiors in Galway’s harbor area

The Harbour Hotel Galway is housed in a modern four-story building in Galway’s harbor area. Floor-to-ceiling windows illuminate the spacious lobby, which has a lovely seating area in front of a fireplace featuring a medley of patterns in a cream, gray, and purple color palette including striped square-shaped armchairs and a dotted carpet. Decor is contemporary, with stylish, modern elements including glass coffee tables, cool lighting fixtures, and black-and-white nautical photographs as well as modern art on the walls. Besides the inviting seating areas, the lobby is a bit clinical, with plain cream tiled flooring and a large cream front desk presiding over a corner of the room.

The adjoining bar and restaurant continues with the cream, gray, and purple color scheme with velvet chairs in rich plum hues that complement lamps dangling above dark wooden tables. Rich wood floors and furnishings in the bar pair well with the neutral tones. The restaurant is filled with cream and wood booth seating, mirrored walls, and a purple carpet festooned with squiggle patterns. The hotel has several meeting rooms and event spaces, which makes it a popular venue for various events, parties, and conferences. It is also attracts a large amount of bachelorette parties, which might pose noise issues.

Harborfront location, within walking distance to most sights and many restaurants and shops

The Harbour Hotel Galway is located on a main road in Galway’s harbor area, a quiet part of the city center a short walk away from most of the main sights as well as many restaurants and bars. The surrounding waterfront area is industrial and the hotel is situated across from a graveyard. Many of the city’s top sights and attractions are within walking distance, including Eyre Square (eight-minute walk), the Galway City Museum (seven-minute walk), the Spanish Arch (eight-minute walk), and Lynch’s Castle (six-minute walk). There is a train and bus station an eight-minute walk from the hotel.

Small, clean, and modern rooms with en-suite bathrooms

Rooms at the Harbour Hotel Galway are clean and modern, though small, with simple, contemporary decor that includes jewel toned bedspreads and upholstered headboards. Comfortable beds are topped with crisp white linens and fluffy duvets, and all rooms have work desks, flat-screen TVs, tea and coffee- making facilities, and free Wi-Fi, though lack minibars or mini-fridges. Family rooms and interconnecting rooms are also available. Superior and Executive Rooms offer a bit more space as well as free bottled water and fluffy bathrobes. Clean and pleasant bathrooms are tiled in white and have shower/tub combos and a range of toiletries provided.

Lovely seafood restaurant and bar, plus private dining available; modern fitness center, business center, and parking with a fee

The hotel’s Harbour Bar and Restaurant serves a fresh, locally sourced menu with an emphasis on seafood in a casual, but elegant, contemporary space. The bar has outside seating on its patio. Afternoon tea is available, as well as an extensive breakfast (though not included in all room rates). The restaurant also hosts private events and parties in private dining suites. The hotel has meeting rooms and conference space as well.

There is a small fitness center -- with a handful of modern machines -- in the hotel as well as a business center with a computer and printer. Wi-Fi is free throughout, and parking is available, though with a fee.
