Bottom Line

Clean, cozy, and modern, with only two guest rooms (each with private bathroom), and a self-service kitchen, Gli Scipioni is an intimate two-pearl bed and breakfast option. The location is hard to beat, it's within five minutes of the Vatican Museum, train station, and St. Peter’s Basilica, right next to a metro stop and surrounded by restaurants and bars. This property is best suited to couples or business travelers who prefer a private, personal space rather than a hotel. Overall, it's an excellent choice for those who want a private room and morning meal and don't need further frills.

Bright and welcoming

On the third floor of a beautiful building along a busy cobblestone street, this tiny, immaculate, two-bedroom bed and breakfast consists of a one-floor apartment with freshly painted white walls, black-and-white photos, and brightly colored IKEA-style furniture, cabinets, and upholstery. A small elevator brings guests and their luggage upstairs. The common areas include just the small kitchen where guests can help themselves to the stocked fridge of eggs, yogurt, cheese, and fruit as well as the cappuccino maker.

In shopper-friendly Prati neighborhood

Surrounded by restaurants, grocery stores, pharmacies, and banks, and within a five-minute walk of the Vatican Museum and St. Peter’s Basilica, Gil Scipioni is also about a block from the Ottaviano-San Pietro metro station, which means easy access to the Colloseum, Roman Forum, and other attractions within 15 minutes. The Roman Court is less than a 10-minute walk away, as is Via Cola di Rienzo, one of Rome’s most famous strips of clothing stores. One street over, Piazza Risorgimento is a hub for taxis, buses and trams that can take guests anywhere in the city.

Vibrant, clean, and spacious

There is a cheerful IKEA feel to both rooms at Gil Scipioni. Both the Orange Room, replete with bright-orange accent paint, curtains, desk, and love seat, and the Green Room, with the same decor but in lime green, have queen-size beds and plenty of space for an extra cot, which is available upon request. Each room has free Wi-Fi, a satellite TV, mini-fridge, kettle with tea and coffee, and private bathroom with bidet, cube shower, and hair dryer, plus a plush robe and a pair of slippers for each guest. The windows overlook the quaint and quiet street below.

Stocked kitchen, and private apartment feel

In addition to the brightly colored rooms with private bath, mini-fridges, tea kettle, Wi-Fi, robe and slippers, guests have access to the self-service kitchen stocked with breakfast foods and snacks. The Gil Scipioni staff can print tickets, help with restaurant and tour reservations, and for an extra fee, line up airport and train station pick-up or drop off. Wi-Fi is free. Parking isn't available on-site and can be difficult to find on the street.
