Bottom Line

The three-pearl Eurostars Saint John Hotel is a solid choice for leisure and business travelers who want attractive and affordable accommodations in central Rome, but the property isn't located within the heart of the city. Reaching most top sights requires taking public transit, and there's a metro station within walking distance. The 84 guest rooms are contemporary and stylish, with flat-screen TVs, minibars, and marble bathrooms with heated towel racks, but there are no electric kettles. Features include hot breakfast for a fee, a classy lobby with a bar, and a business center, but there's no full-service restaurant or fitness room on-site. Travelers looking for a hotel with similar rates that include breakfast can check out the nearby Best Western Hotel President.

Oyster Hotel Review

A modern hotel with a stylish and inviting lobby draws a mix of travelers

The hotel is housed in an older and rather bland brick building, but inside, it’s modern and stylish. Striking contemporary art, wood paneling, plush leather furniture, and a white marble bar are featured in the lobby. Handsome polished tile and hardwood floors lead to a distinctive spiral staircase that descends to a cozy space for casual conversations or informal meetings. Expect to see a mix of business and leisure travelers here, including larger tour groups, families, couples, and corporate groups conducting meetings.

In central Rome, near the Colosseum and a metro station

The Eurostars is located in central Rome, between the Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II and the Basilica of Saint John Lateran. The area is generally safe, there's a good selection of restaurants within a couple blocks, the property is situated next a schoolyard where children often play into the evening. Reaching most top tourist sights requires public transit, and there's a metro stop within walking distance.

  • Three-minute walk to Manzoni metro station
  • Six-minute walk to Basilica of Saint John Lateran
  • 13-minute walk to the Colosseum
  • 23-minute walk to the Roman Forum
  • 12 minutes to Spanish Steps by public transportation
  • 13 minutes to Termini Station by public transportation
  • 15 minutes to Trevi Fountain by public transportation
  • 20 minutes to Pantheon by public transportation
  • 35 minutes to Vatican City by public transportation
  • 30-minute drive to Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport
  • 32-minute drive to Rome Ciampino International Airport

Streamline with attractive details, minibars, and marble bathrooms, but no electric kettles

White and a melange of browns comprise the color palette in the hotel's modern and streamline guest rooms. Drapes, walls, and headboards range from cafe au lait to butterscotch, with elegant tigerwood wall panels and work desks. Hardwood floors have a darker, almost espresso finish, and framed photos of architectural landmarks in Rome complete the look. Rooms vary somewhat in size, with Doubles encompassing a smallish 161 square feet, while Junior Suites and Quads are 215 square feet. Standard amenities include air-conditioning, wall-mounted flat-screen TVs, minibars, safes, and free Wi-Fi, but there are no electric kettles. Attractive marble bathrooms are a highlight -- they're relatively spacious and have white vanities, walk-in showers and separate whirlpool tubs, bidets, heated towel racks, hairdryers, and toiletries.

Daily breakfast buffet and lobby bar, but no gym or full restaurant

Eurostars Saint John Hotel lacks a full restaurant, but a daily hot breakfast buffet, with cappuccino, cold items, and eggs is served in a spacious room for an extra charge. The lobby has a full bar that's open into the evening, and while there's no fitness center on-site, there's a computer and printer for guests to use and meeting spaces that can host groups of up to 100 people. Covered parking in an adjacent garage is available for a fee. Daily newspapers and Wi-Fi throughout are free.
