Bottom Line

This budget property is situated about a 20-minute drive outside of San Antonio. There's not much in the immediate area, though it's built just off of the I-35 North, making it easy to commute across the city. The hotel offers bland suites with kitchens and many guests complain of cleanliness issues. Nevertheless, the property attracts extended stays, offering low rates that draw some repeat guests. Simple amenities include free parking, laundry facilities, and vending machines stocked with snacks and drinks. For an alternative budget option with more features, check out La Quinta Inn San Antonio Lackland which has two pools and free hot breakfast for just slightly higher rates.

Budget property in need of updates; caters to and draws extended stays

Situated in a four-story beige building surrounded by a parking lot, the WoodSpring Suites San Antonio Fort Sam is a chain property situated outside of San Antonio's city center. There's not much in terms of common spaces; guests are greeted in a functional reception area that doesn't offer any seating and consists solely of a front desk. The hotel gets a lot of extended stays, such as business travelers or workers with jobs in the area, some of whom are repeat guests, and it caters to them with special rates. Many guests, however, stay for just a night and complain of a range of issues, including cleanliness. Note that reception here closes fairly early, which can be problematic and requires guests to slip their keys under the door.

Off of the I-35 North, a 20-minute drive northeast of the city center

The hotel is located off of the I-35 North in San Antonio's Park Village neighborhood. There are a couple of other hotels in the immediate area, including a Super 8 motel across the street. The nearest dining options are fast food and casual restaurants that are about a five- to 10-minute drive down the road. It's about a 20-minute drive into San Antonio's city center from here, where travelers will find plenty of dining options, bars, shops, and attractions like The Alamo. Other popular tourist destinations include the San Antonio Zoo and Aquarium (20-minute drive), Six Flags Fiesta Texas (30-minute drive), the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park (30-minute drive), the Natural Bridge Caverns (35-minute drive), and SeaWorld San Antonio (45-minute drive). The San Antonio International Airport is around a 15-minute drive from the hotel.

Basic suites with kitchens; guests complain of cleanliness and other problems

The hotel offers basic suites with kitchens. Decor is bland, bleak, and uninviting, with teal accent walls as the only form of visual interest in the spaces. Walls are bare, floors are carpeted, and furnishings are wooden. Beds are topped with beige bedspreads, and all rooms have desks/tables; some have sleeper sofas. Kitchens are equipped with two-burner stoves, full fridges, and microwaves. Other standard amenities include flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms are basic and can be quite small. They're equipped with shower/tub combos, plus bars of soap are provided. The biggest and most common complaint, among an array of others, is cleanliness. Other problems include odors, roaches, broken/uncomfortable beds, and noise issues due to thin walls.

Features limited to laundry facilities and free parking

This budget property doesn't offer much in terms of amenities, so travelers looking for the convenience of a pool or breakfast should look elsewhere. There are coin-operated laundry facilities that guests are free to use, plus vending machines in the hallways sell drinks and snacks. Parking is free on the hotel's lot, as is Wi-Fi throughout the property. There are no common spaces here, and reception is open for limited times during the day. This is a pet-friendly property, and furry friends are allowed to stay for a fee.
